Cape Town is one of the worlds most incredible cities. With a combination of a buzzing, vibrant city and the amazing natural beauty of mountains and beaches, it is a perfect place to kick off a road-trip through South Africa.
Less than 2 hours outside Cape Town lies some of the worlds top vineyards. They are set in areas of incredible natural beauty and are the perfect place to try out some incredible wines and take it all in for a couple of days.
Victoria Bay is one of our favourite places in the whole country. It is the only place on the road-trip that we will be camping and when you see the view from the Camp Site you will understand why. Vic Bay has consistent good surfing conditions and a great beach.
From Vic Bay we move on to Plettenberg Bay, one of the Garden Routes top holiday towns. A beautiful Bay with a great night-life and some exciting activities including the worlds highest bungee jump and skydiving, its always one of the favourite stops.
Jeffreys Bay is known internationally as having one of the worlds best waves. Every year in July, the surfing world gathers in J-Bay for the Billabong Pro world tour event. As well as some incredible surf, J-Bay also has amazing beaches and a great atmosphere.
From J-Bay we head inland to Hogsback. Hogsback is famous as the area that inspired JRR Tolkiens books, The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings. It is a magical place with waterfalls and mountains and some breathtaking views over the valleys below. We stay at a great lodge here that has some amazing staff and always attracts loads of other visitors.
![]() In Cintsa Bay, we stay at a lodge right on a beautiful river mouth overlooking the sea. Buccaneers backpackers in cintsa always attracts a lot of people and has a great night-life.
![]() Coffee Bay is located right in the middle of the Transkei, a rural area of the country. To get here we travel down dirt roads through stunning countryside. The local people are all sunsistence farmers and are as friendly and welcoming as could be. Coffee bay is beautiful and it feels like you're in a time warp here. You'll probably not want to leave this amazing place!
![]() Durban is the second largest city in South Africa and its subtropical climate and warm ocean make it an exciting holiday destination. Durban is known as the playground of South Africa for good reason. The laid back beach culture and great attractions ensure that you will never get bored. Aliwal Shoal, just south of the city centre is one of the top 10 dive spots in the world and Ballito, just north of the city, boasts world class surfing conditions. The city itself is always buzzing and has both great beaches and some awesome nights out!
![]() From Durban we will head further north for a couple of days to experience life on safari. See the african bush and its wildlife up close. Memories you'll have forever!
